ATTENTION

The quality of the water that our families use is very important.  An important component of water quality is how the water is stored.  For cistern users, this means ensuring our cisterns are clean, safe, and free from anything that can negatively affect water quality.

The Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship recommends cisterns should be cleaned and disinfected annually and or following:

  • Construction, repair or maintenance work on the cistern

  • Flooding in the area of an underground cistern

  • A period of non-use

  • Sampling which indicates the presence of bacteria

IMPORTANT - CONFINED SPACE ENTRY PRECAUTIONS MUST BE FOLLOWED TO ENTER THE CISTERN

Don’t have the proper training and equipment to safely enter a confined space? No problem! CHARLESWOOD CISTERN CLEANING is certified to work in confined work spaces and has all of the appropriate equipment to do it safely and efficiently.

Many homeowners have an out of sight out of mind mentality pertaining to their water cisterns. The reality is that neglecting to conduct regular maintenance of your cistern will result in the build-up of sludge, the accumulation of bio-film, and the creation of an environment that may harbour harmful bacteria.

Some homeowners think to themselves: “Only clean water goes into the cistern. How bad can it be?” If you’re not sure if you need a cleaning, wait until the water level is low, open the lid and have a peek. If you see sediment and/or debris on the bottom of the tank as pictured below, then you’re overdue for a cleaning.

The following images are examples of a cistern that had not been cleaned in approximately 4 years:

Note that the sludge/sediment has build-up not only on the floor of the cistern but also on the walls and columns.

CHARLESWOOD CISTERN CLEANING not only removes all of the sludge but also power washes and scrubs the ceiling, columns, walls and the floor. We will also inspect your cistern for cracks and other defects and provide you with any recommendations. In addition, CHARLESWOOD CISTERN CLEANING disinfects the entire cistern with EasyDECON DF200, the best disinfectant on the market.

Once cleaned and disinfected, the cistern is thoroughly rinsed, vacuumed dry, and left pristine and ready for filling as depicted below:
